Chapter 2 – Maiden Voyage: Not what we expected

Day #2 –

Friday afternoon: Our appointment for the PDI and paperwork was set for 1:00pm.  We started with the paperwork.

514735754During the paperwork session, the finance manager “HAD” to explain the ADD ON’s with us again.  When he did, we decided to get the extended warranty.  WHY?  Well, 2 reasons really . . . 1) road side assistance and, most importantly, 2) a mobile tech could come out if we can’t get it to a dealer.  And we liked the appearance package so that we don’t have to wax it for 5 yrs.  If anything fades, they cover that too.  So we’re thinking “Money well spent”.  Maybe not so much . . . keep reading . . .

The next few hours were spent going thru the 5th Wheel, inside and out.  Everything is going smoothly so far. . . except for hubby who is starting feel the effects of the heat/humidity that we are not accustomed to.

During our Walk-thru, a lady comes in to inform us that there are some blinds that are missing or broken and that she has already ordered them.  They will have them shipped to us in Amarillo to have them installed there.  When we walked up to the RV, we noticed that there were some water drops and some drips like it had just been washed and not dried.  They told us that was from the ‘treatment’ they did for us (the Appearance Package we purchased) and that these drops and drips would disappear in a few days. If not, they would take care of it.  Upon further inspection, we see that there are some white cloudy areas on the wheel wells and darker trim pieces that won’t rub off like the ones on the lighter areas of the RV.  You will hear more about this later.  There are a few more “easy to fix” items that they are going to take care of for us before we take it off the lot on Saturday . . . not today.

inarticle_traffic_32313122We had already decided to leave the RV here and pick it up in the morning.  The reason?  We haven’t pulled a trailer in years AND we didn’t want our ‘first time’ to be during  5 o’clock traffic in a BIG city (Oklahoma City).  Plus, we were hot & tired and it would give them time to have all the repairs done for us by the time we picked it up the next day.  So we thought . . .

State-farm-logo.svgFriday evening:  Here is where it all goes South!!!  We get back to the hotel around 5:30pm and realize that we don’t have insurance for the RV!!!!  So I get on the phone to State Farm and talk to customer care because our agent has left for the weekend.  BTW – have I mentioned that this is Memorial Weekend?  Yep!!  This will play a big roll in the remaining events of this weekend.  Good Sam But I digress . . . the customer care woman tells us that she can not write an RV policy, our agent must do it.  She can do auto or home but not RV.  REALLY?  Now what??  I try every thing I possibly can to find our agents cell phone number . . .our son, Facebook posts . . . but to no avail!!! After lots of help on Facebook as to who to use and what to do, we call Good Sam Club.  Long story short – for about $280 more than State Farms quote, we have insurance!!!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhile we were trying to get insurance, we realize that we may have to stay in the hotel another night unless we get insurance tonight!!!  When we call to see if we can stay one more night, we are informed that they are fully booked and we have to check out in the morning.  WHAT??  Thankfully, we were able to get insurance on the RV . . . so we had it to stay in.

Even tho things have not gone exactly as planned, we are trusting that things will go smoothly tomorrow when we can pick her up and can take her to the Rockwell RV Park and spend a few nights in her.  Umm . . . or maybe they won’t .

Stay tuned for more excitement to come from “The Ole Rooster and his Hen” . . .
